Oh, woe is the South Asian woman with a less-than-flawless complexion. For her, the quest for the perfect make-up shade is as fruitless as the search for the Holy Grail, and about as arduous. Which one of us hasn't commiserated with our girlfriends, bemoaning foundation that makes our skin look ashy, eyeshadow that fades away on our lids or concealer that does a pathetic job of covering the dark circles under our eyes? Enter Pinki, Monal and Priti Patel, the makeup mavens behind Vasanti Cosmetics and the saviors of the South Asian makeup dilemma. It all started with Pinki, who began exploring her lifelong passion for makeup almost 10 years ago, when she took a job at a trendy makeup studio to help pay the bills as a psychology master's student. Soon, she was working with top makeup artists and eagerly absorbing all the tricks of the trade. But alas, she too was on the endless quest for a foundation that matched her skin tone. When she couldn't find it, the idea of making her own took root. She bounced ideas off her best friend, Monal Patel, about starting her own line of makeup. By 1998, she recruited Monal and her sister Priti to launch Vasanti Cosmetics, a line dedicated to enhancing yellow-toned complexions. |

In seven short years, Vasanti's products have garnered a loyal following and have scored mentions in Allure, Elle Canada, Flare and Canadian Living magazines. Originally an online operation with a head office in Toronto, Vasanti has now increased distribution through Canada and is expanding into the United States. But why stop at North America? Vasanti also hopes to go global within the next five years. Then again, it doesn't really matter where you are—Vasanti products are available online at VasantiCosmetics.com—and they even ship internationally.
For the perfect pink lips, try our Cali4nia Sunsets Lip Palette. It contains four wearable shades of pink that can be blended together or worn separately, no matter what your skin and lip color.
Tip: If you have a deeper skin tone or highly pigmented lips, try the shades with our Madeira Lip Pencil. ![]()
For your eyes, we've come out with three new tropical eyeshadows for the spring season. Our shades are highly pigmented, so whatever your skin color, the shades you see in the compact are the shades you'll get on application. Tip: For a more subtle look, try using it as a thick eyeliner with a thinner layer of black or brown eyeliner over it. Another alternative is to replace the wintry black liner by using an eyeshadow as a liner instead, which results in a more subtle look. Try using our new shade, Brasilia—it's a deep rich charcoal with a touch of gold sparkle.
